Welcome to the Pearls website ~
an extension of the Pearls Parenting Practices book!
During the three year writing process, many helpful stories were gathered that were unable to be included in the book. You will find them below, under "Supplemental Stories."
Pearls was written for my five children, new parents and their little ones, and anyone else who wishes to create an emotionally healthy environment for their kids (and themselves) to thrive.
For parents, raising children is one of the single most important things they have to do, and can be one of their greatest gifts! There is no perfect way to parent, yet there are certain practices (filled with insight and wisdom) which can prove tremendously helpful to the process.
My passion for the past three years has been to create a different kind of parenting book – a gentle guide with stories, engaging watercolor illustrations, poems and quotes. Something easy for new parents to enjoy with their little ones. Something which will help ignite their love and commitment, as well as provide solidarity, support and a framework in which to satisfy the essential needs of children as they grow.
In the process I have had meaningful conversations with over 100 people – educators, doctors, midwifes, therapists, parents, grandparents. . . . all kinds of people from varied backgrounds and professions – and asked them to share their perspectives. In addition, I have read many parenting books, and pulled out the “pearls” to share in a simple, loving way.
My hope is that Pearls will help the next generation of children to develop into self-confident, independent, caring and critical thinking individuals who are able to find their place in
the world.
